200 assisted living and residential care facilities hold an active state license in the Kansas City metro: 74 licensed by Missouri DHSS and 126 by Kansas KDADS, with 9,385 licensed beds between them.
On the Missouri side that is 47 Option 2 and 5 Option 1 assisted living facilities plus 22 residential care facilities; 30 have disclosed an Alzheimer's special care unit. On the Kansas side it is 66 assisted living or residential health care licenses and 60 Home Plus homes (12 residents or fewer).

Assisted living is a state license; memory care is a secured dementia program inside a licensed building. Neither Missouri nor Kansas issues a separate memory care license.

Missouri licenses by evacuation ability (RCF I/II, ALF Option 1/2); Kansas licenses by living-unit type (assisted living apartments, residential health care units, or a Home Plus of 12 or fewer).
Missouri Option 2 ALFs may keep residents who can't evacuate alone, with extra staffing and an evacuation plan. Kansas facilities write a negotiated service agreement for every resident.
